Alicia Keys delivers a powerful reimagining of Jay-Z’s iconic anthem with "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down," the standout track from The Element of Freedom. Co-produced by Keys alongside Al Shux, the song blends raw vulnerability with the project’s signature soulful intensity. The track’s stripped-back yet emotionally charged production reflects Keys’ ability to transform a classic into something deeply personal, capturing resilience and quiet strength in every note.

At the heart of this version lies Keys’ commanding vocals, which redefine the original’s triumphant energy with a more intimate, reflective tone. The stripped-down arrangement, featuring a minimalist beat and raw instrumentation, allows her phrasing to take center stage. This version isn’t just a cover; it’s a testament to Keys’ artistry, proving she can turn a legendary track into a deeply moving experience.

As the fourteenth and final track on The Element of Freedom, "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down" serves as a fitting closer, encapsulating the album’s themes of freedom and self-discovery. The collaboration with Al Shux adds a modern touch, ensuring the song retains its original spirit while feeling fresh and authentic. For fans of Keys’ work and the original anthem, this version is a must-listen.
